My name is Luc Jean-Francois. I am teaching at Broward College, North Campus. I received my master's degree from Florida Atlantic University. I have worked in the finance industry for several years and have the experience with several business ventures.  I enjoy teaching and training people, strive to inspire them and make a difference in their lives.  Additional info about me:

Course Description

This course provides a basic study of business activity and how it relates to our economic society. Topics covered include how businesses are owned, organized, managed and controlled. Course content emphasizes business vocabulary, areas of business specialization, and career opportunities. For more details visit BC Course Outlines

Methods of Instruction

 This is a 3-credit hour blended course or online.  In this class, we meet once a week on-campus, (Blended), for at least 1.5 hours, and you will engage in structured out-of-class or online activities for the remainder of the class time. These online activities will include graded discussions, graded assignments, a group project, and graded online quizzes.  For online classes, everything is done online 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students shall be able to





  • Describe the basic environments (legal, social, economic), both domestic and international, in which a business operates
  • Explain the basic concepts of management and recognize problems faced in operating a business enterprise
  • Describe the basic concepts related to the marketing of goods and services
  • Recount basic information with respect to money and banking, financial management, stock and bond markets, and risks involved in business
  • Describe the basic elements of accounting, computers, data processing, and quantitative methods with emphasis on the role these play in business
  • Identify and describe the changing factors that could influence business in the future, and relate how these factors could affect their careers.  For more details visit  BC Course Outlines for this course.

  • Computer Knowledge and Skills:
  • Students in this course should be familiar with the following computer skills.
  • File Management - You should be familiar with finding and saving files on your computer.
  • The Internet - You should be familiar with connecting to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider or Network Connection.
  • Web Browser Software - You should be familiar with using web browser software to navigate the Internet and locate information.
  • Email - You should be familiar with sending and receiving email messages.
  • Discussions - You should be familiar with posting and reading discussion messages in a threaded format.
  • Attachments - You should be familiar with sending email messages with attached files.
  • Word Processing - You should be familiar with creating, editing, saving, and printing documents using Microsoft Word.
  • Other Requirements
    • You'll need a BC email address to access the online portion of this course.
    • Obtain a County Library Card or University/College Library Card. You will need either a County Library Card which you may obtain at either North Campus or South Campus Library or a University/College Library Card from the Central Campus Library. These cards will allow you to use select library databases. (optional)
