The class meets on Central Campus, building 9 room 101 every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 9:15. The first day of class is Tuesday August 28, 2012 and the last day will be Tuesday December 10, 2012.

Faculty Introduction



 I teach at Broward College, North & Central Campuses. I received my master's degree from Florida Atlantic University. I have worked in the finance industry for several years and have the experience with several business ventures as an entrepreneur.  I enjoy teaching and training people, I strive to inspire them and make a difference in their lives.  Additional info about me:

Course Description

Faculty Instructions: This course presents a modern treatment of business. It explores start-up/buy-out, franchising, business plans, marketing plans, human resources, financial planning, legal forms, products/services, selling, advertising, management policies, accounting systems, tax issues, capital management, computers, risk management, and ethical issues. Methods of Instruction

This is a 3-credit hour course. Normally, a 3-credit hour on-campus course would meet two times each week (during a 16 week term) for a total of 3 hours per week or 48 hours per term. In this class, we will meet once a week on-campus, (Tuesdays), for at least 2 hours and 45 minutes, and you will engage in structured out-of-class or online activities for the remainder of the class time. These online activities will include graded discussions, graded assignments and a group project.

Learning Outcomes

The student shall be able to:
  1. develop a business plan by using the principles and techniques discussed in each unit
  2. describe the steps a person should follow in assessing the viability of beginning a business
  3. explain how a firm will begin its marketing process and discuss its business plan
  4. evaluate, illustrate, and discuss the marketing process
  5. describe the various aspects of managing a business and discuss the role of leadership in working with employees
  6. recognize the importance of ethics in a small firm and to discuss its community involvement

Course Requirements

This is a Bachelor’s level class, to maximize your chances for success in this course, make sure that you meet the following course requirements:
  • Course Prerequisites and Co-requisites: None
  • Computer Knowledge and Skills:
    • Students in this course should be familiar with the following computer skills.
      • File Management - You should be familiar with finding and saving files on your computer.
      • The Internet - You should be familiar with connecting to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider or Network Connection.
      • Web Browser Software - You should be familiar with using web browser software to navigate the Internet and locate information.
      • Email - You should be familiar with sending and receiving email messages.
      • Discussions - You should be familiar with posting and reading discussion messages in a threaded format.
      • Attachments - You should be familiar with sending email messages with attached files.
      • Word Processing - You should be familiar with creating, editing, saving, and printing documents using Microsoft Word.
  • Other Requirements
    • You'll need a BC email address and / Login ID to access the online portion of this course.
    • Obtain a County Library Card or University/College Library Card. You will need either a County Library Card which you may obtain at either North Campus or South Campus Library or a University/College Library Card from the Central Campus Library. These cards will allow you to use select library databases. (optional)

How to Access this Course once you are Enrolled in this Course

You will be able to login into the course on the first day of class (Tuesday August 28, 2012) by going to BConline login page (https://bconline.broward.edu). You may open the course earlier than the first day of the term using Course Offering Information. You are the only person permitted to login assuming that you have registered and paid for the course. There may be a delay of up to 20 minutes from when a student registers and pays before BConline login is activated.
  • Your BConline User Name is the same as your BC email ID.
  • Your BConline password is the same as your BC email PIN code.
  • If you need login information, obtain BC email user ID and PIN code before attempting to login to BConline.
